If the framework is not installed, you can add it from the Windows Update Site.

What are the reputation categories?
  • Inoffensive - IP address is a legitimate sender or a source of substantial amounts of legitimate e-mail.
  • Unverified - IP address may be a legitimate sender, but displays several properties that suggest further content inspection of e-mails received from that address is needed.
  • Suspicious - IP address shows many spam sender characteristics, and e-mail received from this address may be subject to higher scrutiny.
  • Spam - IP address has either been used to send spam or phishing attacks, or should not send e-mail messages in general.
  • Undetermined - message has no available received headers, so its reputation cannot be determined.
Why do I need the toolbar to tell me the reputation, when in a perfect world - only the good mail should be reaching my inbox anyway?
As today's anti-spam technologies have improved, the threats also have adapted to become more malicious and fraudulent. Even with 99 percent catch rates, still one in every 100 unwanted messages will make it to the desktop The toolbar enables you to report those messages that are not detected and should have been and vice versa, empowering you to influence the reputation of that sender.

Where do the messages go when I Report Spam? What happens with them?
If you highlight a message or messages and then click the "Report Spam" icon, TrustedSource Toolbar sends the selected e-mails, including all headers, as attachments to spamalert@threatresearch.org for further review and analysis, and moves the messages to the Junk folder or deletes them depending on your option settings.

Where do the messages go when I Report Phishing? What happens with them?
If you highlight a message or messages and then click the "Report Phishing" icon, TrustedSource Toolbar sends the selected e-mails, including all headers, as attachments to fraudalert@threatresearch.org for further review and analysis, and moves the messages to the Junk folder or deletes them depending on your option settings.

Where do the messages go when I Report Good? What happens with them?
If you highlight a message or messages and then click the "Report Good" icon, TrustedSource Toolbar sends the selected e-mails, including all headers, as attachments to goodmail@threatresearch.org for further review and analysis.

What versions are available today, and when will the other versions be available?
The TrustedSource Toolbar is available today for Outlook and Lotus Notes. A new version designed for Web-based mail (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) will be available during the second quarter of 2006.

Does any other vendor offer a toolbar? If so, who and with what capabilities?
There are numerous toolbars on the market designed for Web browsers. Specifically, many of these browser-based toolbars analyze a Web site that you are already visiting, which is too late. The TrustedSource Toolbar is the only e-mail toolbar that provides real-time reputation information for each message, keeping you from ever clicking on the link to take you to the fraudulent site.

I've configured Outlook to pull messages down to my desktop via Yahoo. Will the plug-in work in this set-up?
The toolbar will work in most cases for e-mail that is "pulled" via POP3/IMAP from other e-mail sources. There are some special circumstances that are dependant upon the e-mail provider's infrastructure where the toolbar will be unable to accurately determine the true IP Address and therefore the reputation of the sender.

Do I still need .NET Framework v1.1 if I have .NET Framework v2.0 installed?
Yes, the toolbar requires .NET Framework v1.1 to be installed on the system. It is ok to have both version installed, they will not conflict with each other.

How do I get the .NET Framework v1.1?
Please see the "Downloading .NET Framework" section of the User’s Guide.
